The Ultimate Northwoods' Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day Weekend is the Northwoods’ summer send-off before kids go back to school; cabins get shut down for the season; and the weather is still great for that last ski run on the lake. We want to help you send out summer in style, so we put together your ultimate guide to all of the happenings in the Northwoods this weekend.

Friday

Friday Farmer’s Market

8:00am – 1:00pm

Skip the grocery store and pick up your goodies for the weekend at the Minocqua Farmer’s Market in the Minocqua Park Complex on Highway 70 West. Check out the rainbow of fruits and vegetables, but our favorite is getting farm fresh eggs and a whole chicken to roast on the grill.

Bike the Heart of Vilas Day Trip

9:00am – 4:00pm

Cruise a new section of the Heart of Vilas Bike Trail for a fully supported, all-inclusive day trip with fellow adventurers. The trip includes shuttle, guided trail support, gourmet picnic lunch, snacks, a variety of beverages, and souvenir water bottle. Meet in St. Germaine to hop on the shuttle to Boulder Junction, then spend the day making your way back to St. Germaine with great stops along the way. Organized by our friends at On the Go North and the Boulder Junction Chamber of Commerce. Pre-registration required.

Northwoods Harley Davidson’s Biker, Blues, + BBQ

9:00 - 6:00pm

Stop by Northwoods Harley Davidson for lots of bikes, great music, and mouth watering BBQ to help raising money for Honor Flight. Catch Reverend Raven and the Chain Smokin’ Altar Boys at 3:30pm, featuring Westside Andy Linderman on Harmonica. More information here.

Live Music at Minocqua Brewing Company

8:30pm – 11:30pm

Dance to the sounds of the Pine Travelers while sipping on craft beer at the Minocqua Brewing Company. We suggest grabbing a bite to eat and a glass of wine at The Vine beforehand.  We love the Seared Tuna with a glass of Grenache.

Saturday

Bad Dash Mud Run

A four-mile Northwoods adventure run –challenging obstacles, LOTS of mud, and great scenery. Run as an individual, as a team (there is an award for best team costume!), or just join the party at the finish line for live music, raffles, food, + beer. The race starts at the North Lakeland Discovery Center and ends at the Manitowish Waters Community Center. More information here.

Manitowish waters skiing skeeters Waterski Show

Special Time - 6:00pm

The Manitowish Waters Skiing Skeeters are doing a special, end of the summer show at Rest Lake Park. Come by car, bike, or boat. The Skiing Skeeters have a great concession stand to purchase a treat, or stop by Aurora Borealis to grab fish tacos + a watermelon salad to go.

Music in the Dark

7:00pm – 10:00pm

Back by popular demand, Music in the Dark in Koller Park with Strummin’ Drummer brings you good tunes long after sunset. Pack your favorite cooler with refreshing summer drinks, like one of these. Need a new insulated cup to keep your drink cold? This is our new favorite from Stoney Creek Home & Garden in Minocqua. Make sure to bring your dancing shoes!

Sunday

Sno-Skeeters Summer Fest + Dam Duck Race

1:30pm – 6:00pm

Have you ever seen hundreds of rubber ducks roll over a dam and race to the finish line? Help support the Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters with a day of fun in Koller Park – raffles, kids games, live music, food, the duck race, and so much fun!

Music in the Park

4:00pm- 6:00pm

Stay after the Dam Duck Race for Music in the Park in Koller Park with the Bear Creek Band. Always good music, good food (for a cause), and lots of dancing. Northerly tip: come by boat and enjoy from the water!

All Weekend!

Manitowish Waters Challenge

There is no better time than now to complete the Manitowish Waters Challenge – jumping in all TEN lakes on the Manitowish Waters Chain. The days are still long, the water is still warm, and lakeside restaurants are still open. If you missed our play-by-play of our Manitowish Waters Challenge, get some fun ideas in our journal post. Ready, set, go!

Last visits at the end of the season!

Many of our favorite local businesses pack it up for the winter, so make sure to stop by to get your fix this weekend. Revisit our 10 Manitowish Waters Secrets Only the Locals Know journal post for ideas. Some of our favorites include:

Dock ‘N Shop
Voss’ Birchwood Lodge
Blue Bayou Inn
Hawk’s Nest Canoe Outfitters
Greer's Pier Marina/The Lower Unit Bar + Grill

Grilling Out

Savor the flavors of summer with a meal from the grill this weekend. We still love the fresh flavors in the flatiron steak with chimichurri recipe from our Summer Date Night journal post. Pair it with this amazing Grilled Corn And Tomato Salad, and you won’t be disappointed. Pick up your fresh veggies from the Minocqua Farmer’s Market and your meat from Lake Tomahawk Meat Market on the way up!
