Essentials for Welcoming Fall
Even though summer in northern Wisconsin is the season of sunshine, summertime love stories, and long days cruising the gin-clear lakes, we find ourselves craving the change of season. Our hearts yearn for this new season filled with beautiful colors, soft textures, and warm fires. Fall brings a slower pace of life; more time to linger over coffee and say hi to a neighbor on your morning walk. Here's a few of our favorite ways to celebrate the season.
Get a new perspective
Fall seems to be the season where we find ourselves picking up a new book, slowing down, and spending more time evaluating what is + isn't working in our life. Turn on some tunes from our Fall music playlist and read a few of our current favorite blog posts to make this season one of intention.
With the thermometer dropping outside, it's time to turn on the heat. If you're anything like us, you're waiting until the last possible moment to get the furnace going again. Throw on our favorite cardigan to curl up on a crisp morning and read your book. Pick up one of our favorite fall staples, this simple sweater that will take you from cool September evenings through February's never-ending chills.
After a summer of busy: kids at camp, summer vacations, and many other activities that seem to pull us in a million directions, we each have plenty of people we need to say thank you to. We suggest ordering one (or a couple!) of White Spruce Market's custom boxes to show your gratitude + appreciation to those that go the extra mile for you when it means the most.
Dress for it
Fall brings a variety of weather - warm, sunny days followed by long rain filled streaks, and even the chance of a snowflake. Pick up a few new items for your closet to keep you outside + active all season long. And after all, it's fall - so bring on the vests, plaid scarves, and all other quintessential fall things. We love Patagonia's Cotton Quilt Snap T Pullover, Hunter Rain Boots for a wet day, + a Duluth Pack Market Tote - perfect for the farmers market. For the guys: Kuhl Flannel shirts and a Stormy Kromer cap. Don't forget your four-legged (best) friend, they'll love Hoot + Co. bandanas.
pick up a new hobby
The changing foliage is symbolic to how many of us feel this time of year. We love taking the time to invest in a new hobby. Here's some of our suggestions: (1) Rent a mountain bike from Coontail and try WinMan Trails for the first time (if you're a lady, check out their Women's Mountain Bike Clinic here). (2) It's the perfect time of year to learn to knit, stop into Nanette's Knits to get a few tips + pick up supplies. (3) Rediscover the heart of the home: the kitchen. Can beans, preserve fresh fruit, or simply make a loaf of bread. To pick up fresh produce, visit the Minocqua Farmer's Market on Friday mornings.
Time to read
Visit your neighborhood little library to pick up an old, but new-to-you, novel. Use the Little Free Library guide to discover one in your neck of the woods. We've spotted a few cute ones on Alder Lake Road, Point 'O Pines Road, and Ilg Road, all in Manitowish Waters. Discover a new read off a Best Fall Book List for 2017 (here, here, + here).
In the Northwoods? Join the Northerly Collective book club - currently meeting monthly in Manitowish Waters. We would love to have you, send us an email to join!
'Tis the season for pumpkin, spice, and all other things nice, and we are fully embracing that. Create a new cocktail recipe for early evenings around the fire, like the Cabin Fever Cocktail. Invite over a few friends and mix up a new appetizer, we love Roasted Garlic + Rosemary Pumpkin Hummus. Infuse a few flavors of harvest into your kitchen, here's some fall recipe suggestions. Mix up your morning coffee routine with spiced coffee flavors from Ann Marie's in Minocqua - roasted fresh weekly.
Soft + Rustic
Add soft textures and rustic patterns into your decor to bring back the warmth and charm of your cabin's story. Our favorite fall essentials are L.L.Bean Flannel Sheets, Schoolhouse Plaid Throws, Pendleton Wool Blankets, Sydney Hale Co. candles in Wood scent (wait until you smell this one!), and Rumpl puffy blankets - perfect for the cabin, car, + everywhere in-between. For more nostalgic finds, explore The Northwoods Antique Trail for a few vintage pieces. Here's a few of our other favorite cabin decor accessories:
