Wisconsin's Most "Wisconsin-esque" Winter Events


Winter events in northern Wisconsin are usually a few things - wrapped around a long-standing tradition, for the hearty (-10 and outside, okay...), and usually just old fashioned fun. So there is no sense in having the winter blues - bundle up, get outside, and enjoy. Here's a quick list of our favorite winter events in the North.

SISU Ski Fest 

January 5, 2018 in Ironwood, MI

A big event with small-town ambiance, welcome to SISU Ski Fest. Beginning at ABR Trails, ski among Northwoods pines, up, down and around rocky outcroppings, along the Montreal River, through the Miners Memorial Heritage Park, and by the World's Tallest Native American Statue. Commemorative SISU souvenirs, traditional "Yooper" fare and local entertainment. Don't miss this ski race, but if you do, at least give yourself a lesson on the Finnish word, Sisu.  


 2nd Annual Arctic Warrior Race

January 13, 2018 in St Germain

A "arctic" weekend of winter races and obstacle courses for the entire family - 2nd Annual Arctic Warrior Race! The Arctic Warrior Snowshoe Race winds through St. Germain's beautiful trails, offering varying distances of Kids 1k, 5k, or 10k. Test yours skills in a winter obstacle race, The Arctic Warrior Obstacle Course, traveling around Little St. Germain Lake and through towering pines. Sign up for the 5k or 10k race course with a variety of challenges from a snow tire shuffle, switchback climb, snowy tundra tunnel crawl and a frozen tire bike. Your last Artic Warrior option - gather a group of friends for The Obstacle Course Challenge! 


World Championship Snowmobile Derby

January 12-14 & 18-21, 2018 in Eagle River

From professional snowmobile oval racing to vintage classic racing, the World Championship Snowmobile Derby is a Wisconsin tradition you need to be a part of on January 18-21, 2018. Held at the World Championship Derby Track in Eagle River since 1964, the Derby hosts over 40,000 spectators annually, with fans traveling from the United States, Canada, and beyond. More than 500 international drivers race their snowmobile at speeds of over 100 mph on a solid ice oval, deeming the race to be the "Indianapolis 500 of Snowmobile Racing".   

Same oval racing track, same sport, much older model. If vintage is more your thing, cheer on the World Championship Vintage Snowmobile Derby, held January 12-14, 2018 - a walk down the "good ole days" of snowmobiling. 


Justin Donner Memorial Fisheree

January 27, 2018 in Park Falls

Time to get fishing for a great cause! Head to Donner's Bay Resort on the Turtle-Flambeau Flowage to fish in a multi-category contest in memory of Justin Donner for suicide awareness. Food, drink, auction, raffle, + fun for the whole family - free kids fisheree too!   


st Germain Radar run 

February 2-3, 2018 in St Germain

Bikinis + snowmobiles. Yep, you read that correctly. The St Germain Radar Run happens annually on a 1000' groomed ice track on Little St. Germain Lake. No matter the weather - snow or sun, cold or colder - racers compete at high speeds for the title. Saturday is about the ladies when they break out the bikinis to race for highest honors in time, speed, and donations - event benefits local charities.


Frozen tozen ice fishing tournament

February 3, 2018 in Boulder Junction

Ice fishing fun for the entire family at Frozen Tozen Ice Fishing Tournamanet, hosted on Boulder Lake in Boulder Junction. Cash prizes are awarded in a variety of categories. Build a fire, bring a few games, and spend the day on the lake celebrating winter in northern Wisconsin. 


20th Annual Ice Cold Beer Fest

February 10, 2018 in Minocqua

Where the Midwest craft beer industry + Minocqua, WI became best friends - meet Ice Cold Beer Fest! Sample over 250 craft beers from Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, + more on February 10, 2018 in downtown Minocqua. Bundle up - sip samples, enjoy food, and live music under a heated tent. Tough luck - this event is sold out! Pencil Ice Cold Beer Fest in for 2019 and buy your tickets early. 


Winter Rendezvous 

February 17, 2018 in Manitowish Waters

Your quintessential northern Wisconsin winter weekend - ice cold beer, ice fishing, + the Famous Klements Racing Sausages. Winter Rendezvous, hosted by the Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters Snowmobile Club, is literally a party on the ice, held on February 17, 2018. Gather a group to participate in the area's largest ice fishing contest or come for the raffles, food, fireworks, and camaraderie.  


Forest Frenzy Winter Triathlon

February 17, 2018 in Boulder Junction

Our 3 favorite winter sports - cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, + fat tire biking combined into one fun, challenging, winter endurance event. The first outdoor winter triathlon of its kind, Forest Frenzy Winter Triathlon, will be premiering on February 17, 2018 at Camp Manito-wish YMCA. Cross-country ski (classic or skate) 8.5-kilometers, snowshoe a 6-kilometer loop, and then petal your fat tire bike 8.5-kilometers through the  the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest.


Bayfield WinterFest 

March 2-4, 2018 in Bayfield

Drive to the top of Wisconsin for a wild weekend of winter fun - Bayfield WinterFEST. Celebrate the end of winter with a plunge in the frozen BIG lake, tear up the obstacle course, or just come to party (hint: our favorite!). Saying goodbye to the snow, ice, and freezing temps has never been so fun!
